
Immigration, Colonialism, and Naming Behind Overseas Chinese Cuisine

In the exhibition Interstice of Shedding, Stasis Space showcases four artists who use everyday life as a starting point, offering intricate and critical perspectives on the possibilities of contemporary daily life. Artist Chen Yuxing's work, "东方图景" (Oriental Scenery), examines British chinoiserie architecture within a decolonial context. In this project, the adaptation of architecture engages with debates about Oriental ownership under Orientalism. Additionally, Chen Yuxing's project includes a Chinese takeout box printed with the image of a pagoda. The pagoda is used as a cultural symbol of Chinese cuisine. While "Orientalism" refers to European colonial expansion globally, the background of these overseas foods/Chinese cuisine is rooted in the global migration of Chinese people.
龟力空间 Stasis Space展出的《中间的脱壳》展览,四位艺术家以日常为切入点,为当下日常生活的可能性,提供了多种细腻且具有批判性的视角。艺术家陈雨星的作品“东方图景”,研究了去殖民主义背景下英国的中国风建筑,在这个项目中,建筑的改编介入了东方主义下关于东方所有权的辩论。此外,在陈雨星的项目中包含一张印有塔身的中餐外卖盒,“塔“的形象被用当作是中餐的文化象征,如果说“东方主义”的背景是欧洲国家在全球范围的殖民扩张,那么在这些海外食物/中餐出现的背景则是华人在全球范围内的移民。
